The Craig County Sheriff’s Office is committed to providing the fullest possible access to public records, as allowed under the Oklahoma Open Records Act. To protect the integrity and organization of records—and to avoid disrupting essential operations—the Sheriff’s Office follows specific procedures for open records requests. Most requests must be made in person and in writing at the Sheriff’s Office, and requesters must include their name, contact information, and a clear description of the records sought. Jail booking reports and accident reports may be requested by email. Requests are not accepted by phone, fax, or U.S. Mail, and if records aren’t immediately available, the requester will be notified when they can be inspected.
The first copy of reports are free to victims.
The Craig County Sheriff’s Office Office policy is to provide the fullest possible access to public information to allow citizens to know and be fully informed about their government. Pursuant to the Oklahoma Open Records Act, Okla. Stat. tit. 51, § 24A.5(6), the Craig County Sheriff’s Office must provide prompt, reasonable access to its records but may establish reasonable procedures which protect the integrity and organization of its records and to prevent excessive disruptions of its essential functions.
In order to facilitate and the public’s right of access to, and review of, government records and while maintaining the integrity and organization of records and to prevent excessive disruptions of essential functions, the Craig County Sheriff’s Office hereby implements the following procedures for requests for records made pursuant to the Oklahoma Open Records Act, Okla. Stat. tit. 51, § 24A.1, et seq.:
** All requests for records must be made in person at the Craig County Sheriff’s Office with exception of jail booking and accident reports.
** Jail Booking and accident request can be made by email. All other requests for records must be made in writing.
** An individual requesting records must provide their name, contact information, and a clear description of the records you are requesting in all open records requests.
** The Craig County Sheriff’s Office will not accept open record requests via telephone, fax, U.S. Mail, or email with exception of jail booking report and accident reports.
** If the records are not available for immediate inspection, the Craig County Sheriff’s Office will notify the requesting individual when the records are available for inspection.
The Craig County Sheriff’s Office is under no legal obligation to respond to requests for records if the requirements of the Oklahoma Open Records Act or the Craig County Sheriff’s Office’s Procedures for Open Records Requests are not followed.
